CVN Skip Plates 2019
STATEMENT OF WORK
ACTION
The objective of this effort was to manufacturer two first article lots of Centerline Skip plates, each out of different alloys, to be installed onto the deck of an aircraft carrier. This is in support of the tasking to NAVAIR Lakehurst to improve the survivability from aircraft hook strikes. The prototypes will be installed on a carrier for a period of time to evaluate the effectiveness and durability of the different alloys during landing flight operations.
DGI procured materials and services to manufacture, assemble, inspect, package, ship, and deliver to the Government a quantity of two lots of CVN Skip plates. Each CVN was machined, finished and painted in preparation for welding onto the aircraft carrier deck for a period of one deployment to evaluate design effectiveness. DGI produced and supplied the first article CVN Skip plates well in advance of the contract deadline date.
RESULT
All 45 Units were inspected by the DCMA with no defects. The units were delivered ahead of schedule to NAVAIR without incident.
