Josh Nierer, Lead Engineer

Josh Nierer has focused a significant portion of his education and career on the research and development of the Electrical grid system. During his Master’s degree in Energy Systems Engineering at Lehigh University, he worked hand and hand with PPL, the local electric utility, to create an algorithm to predict the best locations based on hosting capacity of electrical lines and devices for the installation of solar farms in the Pennsylvania territory. He then independently sought out the leading research professors in electrical systems, material selection, and renewable resources (Rudy Shankar, John N. DuPont, Arindam Banerjee) and worked with them to create new technology in the field of Micro-Hydro Grid generation technology. After graduating Josh went on to work as a Distributions Systems Operator at PPL, controlling the Distribution grid for 1.5 Million Customers. There he got hands on experience reprograming line devices, communication cable design and installation, cable testing techniques, inspecting equipment, and installing electrical lines.

After joining the DGI Team as Lead Project Engineer, Josh has worked on a multitude of projects both government and commercial. Most notable are the QEC NP2000 Propeller Dolly and the ARS Pod Preservation. The QEC NP2000 Propeller Dolly is a common store dolly used for the T-56 and AE2100 Engines to be maintenance while the propeller remains installed. This project followed and met all program and design review requirements. The ARS Pod Preservation project pushed the boundaries of technology by using a FARO Laser Line Scanner to Measure and assess the condition of damaged or obsolete ARS Pods and create quality analysis to be used for the recreation or restoration of these pods. Josh has worked with FARO and Polyworks to create a new system that will revalorize the obsolescence of Parts so that even without drawings parts can be scanned and recreated in three dimensions with seconds.
